Wrap Hoodie Enlarged
Aunt Sandi asked me if I could make a hoodie for Levi if I had extra fabric left over from Alana’s hoodie which I bought Here. I had no problem with making this, but the pattern is only sized 0-3 months so I wasn’t sure if I could pull off making this pattern bigger. So I started scouring the internet for things that might be useful. If you have a lot of kids clothes in certain sizes it is easy to trace them, but as I don’t have kids, I don’t have clothing of different sizes just laying around.
Here is the final version, so as you can see, I was able to figure it out, so I was going to show you what I used to enlarge this pattern.
So the original pattern, I got HERE for free in size 0-3 months, and so I knew I needed a back panel(not shown), a front panel (Cut twice on for each side), a sleeve, and the hood portion.
Then I saw this pattern which is also free HERE, and realized that I could use this for the front and back panels and just omit those ruffled sleeves. I will probably try making this pattern later for one of my nieces because it is so cute, but that is beside the point.
Now I needed a pattern for the sleeve to make sure it is long enough. If you have a long sleeved shirt that you can trace that is awesome, but I didn’t so I used THIS pattern and printed just the page that has the sleeve on it. Now that website has free shirt patterns, but only up to size 2T, so if you are doing a bigger one, you might need to look up free patterns.
Then for the hood piece, I taped a lot of pages together and then first traced the curve of the shirt since that is where it attaches then decided how wide I wanted it to go and shifted the front pattern up and traced again. Then I took a hood from one of my clothes that was super stretchy so it was smaller and traced that onto the paper. So it isn’t, perfect, but I think it looks pretty good.
Then sew according the the step by step instructions HERE. For the cuffs, I cut them just a tiny bit smaller than the opening for the sleeve so that it wouldn’t be too wide and also did the same for the band around the waist. HERE is a great picture tutorial on how I did the waistband and cuffs.
Here is the 2T version that I came up with, and the panda fabric is from Girl Charlee, and the blue is just left over knit fabric that I had.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
