Fixing our Headlights

by Jessica

This is a kinda of random post, but Grant and I needed to go to my parent’s property in Dime Box to water trees and fix the irrigation system. So since there is a driveway and a hose, I decided it was time for my car to get a wash.

Here is what my car looked like, I don’t think we have washed it in over a year. We would have liked to wash it more, but living in an apartment means no hose or place where you can wash it.  Also, we weren’t going to pay to get it done at a car wash because that is just an unneeded expense for us.

Also, our headlights were MAJOR cloudy. Grant thought I was concerned about visibility which I am sure is a factor, but I really cared about how old it made my car look when I feel it is still pretty new. (yes, 9 years old is new to me!)

Bird’s Love me, the shade at work = bird poop.

So we went to Walmart and had read reviews before we got there and bought a 28 dollar kit for headlights.

You tape off around the head light. Use one grit sponge that is wet and rub in a certain direction until cloudy and wipe off, then a second finer grit in the other directions, but dry this time. Wipe off and each time look over to see if you have missed a spot that is looking too clear. (just follow instructions) Then attach the polishing sponge thing to a drill and apply some polishing cream to the lights and start polishing. THIS is where you see results and it starts to get sparkly clean, so of course Grant let me do the boring stuff, and when it got to this he “helped” me with the drill and then once they looked nice left and left me to put the final sealing cream on.

Once that was done, I washed the car with this power washer that I had won in a giveaway which we left in dime box so it actually gets use.

I thought it made a huge difference! My car looks so pretty again!!

The other headlight WOOT!

And just cause I can, the last picture! Have you ever made your headlights less cloudy? I know on pinterest people are saying toothpaste does it,but we just went with a normal kit. Meguiar’s Two Step Headlight Restoration Kit

We used the Meguiar’s Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit which is sold in stores at Walmart and online at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Two-Step-Headlight-Restoration/dp/B004HCOE72/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1368812749&sr=1-4&keywords=headlight+restoration+kit

Oh nice! That’s what I would have used for this job. Your post didn’t mention the brand so I was curious because I work for that company and helped with some of the graphics on that kit 🙂 Your car looks really good here. Sorry you don’t get to wash it more!
