My New love of the "ugly black shelf"

by gswarfield March 14, 2010

Grant is so patient with me in so many ways. I was talking with a few girls from our young married’s group, and they mentioned to me that they are sometimes more depressed when they move in until their stuff is organized, and let me tell you that is how I am. The more organized I get, the happier I am.. poor Grant.I know I have a lot of shoes, and I can’t stand them all over the floor in the closet even if I do have the room for it. So, Grant and I got thinking about a good solution for this.

Another view of more shoes.. some of them are Grant’s…

The ugly black shelf is very versatile, we shorted it in half, and then put all of the shelves on it in good intervals for shoes.

Here you can see the finished product which = a very happy Jessica and Grant since I am not bugging him.

Some of my boots couldn’t make it on the rack, but it is better than nothing!

So, now our floor in our closet is clean! WOOT!

Post-Library

The Shelves are now completed! They look GREAT!

The lower shelf are my fantasy books, and then some of the good literature that we own.

So, you can see how it goes around the corners.

Here is the view you would get if you sat on our couch and looked up or toward our kitchen. I am so happy with how they turned out, and I guess I will just have to get some more books to fill them up the rest of the way!

Mid-Library

by gswarfield March 14, 2010

Here are some pictures that Grant showed me after I got home, So, I don’t know why or how they did some of the what they did. So, bear with me!

Grant and Simon were such troopers! I hope that Simon didn’t feel like he was only here to help us get stuff done in our place! He was an amazing help though! Here you can see their stack of my table and chairs so the lazer level could sit on there for the lower of the two shelves.

Here you see the bottom shelf completed when I got home from work on day one. Don’t ask me why they did the bottom shelf first, but it all worked out in the end!

On day two, the bins were added so that the level was the right height for the higher shelves.

Here you can Simon  on his ladder… I’m not sure what he is doing, but yeah, you can see how the shelves are held up.

Here you can see the ladder criss cross that they used on the corners… Yeah,  doesn’t look like the safest, but as long as my shelves go up and no trips to the emergency room I don’t care how it is done.  Part 3 coming soon!!!

Our Library Shelves

by gswarfield March 14, 2010

So, We are about to embark on a non-straight-wall-shelf-hanging adventure. This is at our apartment, and it is the only area we could think of to use for book storage.

DSC07873We are on the third floor, so this is the only are in our apartment that has a higher peak.

Here is the other side where we would like it to wrap around above the door.

We used Lack shelves from Ikea found here. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60103750/#/40103751

We didn’t hit as many studs as we wanted, so we used these hinged dry wall anchors which we bought from Home Depot to make everything more secure. http://www.todayshomeowner.com/images/article/wall-anchors-2.jpg

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Even better!

by gswarfield March 14, 2010

So We needed to grab some shelves from Ikea for Jessica’s library. Well Simon(Zeemon) and I went to ikea to do this after jess went to work. Well we didn’t realize that Ikea opens at 10am. It was 9am. Simon and I both just were like “ahhh crap didn’t even realize it was so early.” So we were about to just go to some other store and then we saw that Ikea’s restaurant opens at 9:30am. Well we finally got into Ikea and I had to pee really bad, so we made a detour into the restroom. Well hung up in front of the urinal there was Ikea’s “whats happening this month” calender. Well how awesome.. The day we were there was the day they had a buy one 1.99 breakfast, get one free..!!!! Sweeet!! Well we went to do this and they said no that isn’t true. We both said that is what your calender thing says. So long story short the manager literally went into the restroom to find out we were right. The coffee was free too!!!
