McDonald’s McGriddle

by jrwarfield October 9, 2010

So, Grant and I were in Searcy, AR last month, and on our way back to Austin we decided to stop at a McDonalds for Breakfast. I got two breakfast burritos, and a nice large frappe, and Grant got a Frappe, and had a difficult time deciding on what he wanted. This is not a place we normally eat, and weren’t that familiar with the menu. Grant mentioned the McGriddle, and I was pretty sure that it had syrup in it,but I told him to just ask the cashier person when we got up there.

Grant asks, “What is a McGriddle, and is there syrup in it?”

Cashier, ” I don’t know.”

Grant, ” Can you ask someone?”

Cashier gets the manager who looks annoyed ,and Grant asks the same question to, She says,”No, there is no syrup in there.” then she walks away.

Grant ended up getting the McGriddle, and once we were on the road Grant discovered that McDonald McGriddles do indeed have syrup in them. This is not a huge deal, we were just surprised at the fact that the cashier had no initiative to get our question answered, and the manager had even less of a clue! So, syrup or not, Grant ate it, and you can’t really tell, but we were just trying to show the syrup. LOL!

2 Year Anniversary

by jrwarfield October 9, 2010

For our Anniversary, Grant and I wanted to try something different. Last year, we were too poor to do much, but go out to eat to the only place we had a gift card to, but it was still special because we rarely go out to eat. This year, we were inspired by two people in our young married’s group called Deacon and Cameron. They did an unplugged anniversary and you can read about theirs here. We did ours a little bit different. We decided to be unplugged or cut off from the outside world for all of Friday after we came home from work, and all of Saturday. We didn’t get on our computes or phones at all.  Grant couldn’t play computer games, and I wasn’t allowed to read any books. We spent time together talking, just sitting in quiet, and just enjoying our time together. For most married couples, quality time together is hard to come by especially if kids are in the picture. Most people work at two different companies, and only have a few hours a day to get things done and then try to squeeze in some time together as well.

Well, Grant and I are currently both working at the same company, and this means that even though we work in different rooms, we can technically see each other anytime we have something to say. We don’t do this because we actually work at work, but you get the idea. We are always together, eat, sleep, work, clean, etc. So, this spending time together wasn’t much different than our everyday life. I think we both enjoyed it,but I think it would have been more effective if this was abnormal. Saturday, we went hiking to sculpture falls which had been recommended to us by Joy and Steven another couple in our young married’s group. When they went, there were a lot of areas to swim, some to just sit, sun bathe, or read. I guess we had very little rain, so when we got there, there wasn’t enough water, and we were hot and tired. We ended up not eating the food we brought until the car ride back to our apartment, but I guess it was time spent together, and it was good exercise and fun getting there.

The map starting off at the trail head.

Happy Grant and Jessica after we finally found it after a 40 minute Hike.

I guess the water normally goes to and above the lip you can see on the right.

Some cool rock formations.

I was a little bit disappointed with the lack of water, but was glad that we had finally made it to the right spot, then we had the 40 minute hike back.

Grant and I also went out to eat a couple of times during our weekend. We went to Applebee’s for Dinner on Friday night because we had a gift card, and I am addicted to their chocolate molten cakes. We had a great big homemade breakfast on Saturday morning, had lunch in the car after the hike, and then went out to eat to the Korea House for dinner on Saturday night. This is a great hole in the wall place in Austin, and the hole in the wall phrase works well because if you don’t know how to get there you will have trouble. Anyway, the food is always great, but because we weren’t getting multiple portions, we didn’t get the Korean BBQ that they are known for. We got the cooked meat, with all of the sides, and the some good sushi.

Our Food!

Me eating.

It is kinda hard to see, but you can see this whole garden outside looks really nice and Asian! There is even a gazebo… I don’t know the Asian term for it,but yeah good enough.

A nice couple walking by offered to take a picture for us which didn’t turn out too bad. All in all very happy with this date night!

Then Sunday was our chill day. Since Grant and I had so much together time, it was time to do what we wanted. Grant played computer games, and got caught up with his “news”, and I read books and just did nothing for a change. I think we also went to Dan’s Hamburgers for Lunch which of course was glorious.

If in a year from now we are still working at the same company and seeing so much of each other, I don’t know if we would do the unplugged time again, but if we are both working in different places and don’t have a lot of time together, then I could see us trying this unplugged time again, but we will see what the future holds.

I know I haven’t talked much about being married in this post, I am so happy to be married to Grant, our few first years haven’t been easy, but I feel we have been taught to live on very little money, depend on each other and God, and just seen how much God has provided for us in so many ways we don’t even realize now. We are so blessed!!!

The Hovel

by jrwarfield August 27, 2010

The Hovel is the new name that I gave to the little house in the back of my parent’s property in Dime Box. It is always confusing because they say they are working on the house, but you never know which one. So, Mom and Dad had be space plan how to rebuild that little building, and this is what we all finally decided on encase anyone else is interested.

The 4th of July

by jrwarfield August 27, 2010

This is about or 4th of July, it is pretty late, sorry I have no real excuse, no kids, just work. Anyway, below you can see our hosts the Amaros. This is before their baby as you can see, but they were still awesome enough to host everyone.

Our Gracious Hosts

We all met at their house, and were going to have a big meal with everyone providing something.

Tanya and I

This of course was a great time to take pictures of family. We did family pictures with everyone, and here you can see Tanya and I.

The only one that turned out ok

All of the family pictures turned out great, except for Grant and mine…. 🙁 I managed to blink in every single one, and I normally don’t have that issue, so this is the best one from those.

The Winner

As you can see, Simon was also here at this get together, and we needed up with a great picture with him.

The Table, or part of it

Here you can see some of the yummy goodness of our feast.

The Crofts provided meat that was tasty.

The cranberry fluff that I made since it was a great excuse to make it,but finding cranberries when it isn’t close to thanksgiving can be hard.

The the Warsnick Fielder bars, that I posted the recipe for earlier which were very tasty.

So all in all we had a great time with Family and friends, and I hope your time on the 4th was great too!!

The Wonders of Craigslist

by jrwarfield August 4, 2010

Grant and I have been trying to sell some stuff on Craigslist lately because it is just cluttering our apartment. We don’t need them, and so we try to sell them. We have definitely found some of the dumbest Craigslist people around. First they call and want to see it, you wait for hours, and then they either never show, or they later tell you they already found what they needed. But in the end, Craigslist is awesome when people are just curtious. One of the things we have been trying to sell was our couch.

We finally managed to sell it for 100 which is awesome because it makes our apartment feel so much more open, and this was awesome when I was 15 and bought it. Now that I am older the low back isn’t quite as comfortable as I would have liked another reason we decided to part with it. Supposedly it went to a school library in a school here in Austin which sounds awesome and would be a perfect couch for that. Grant wonders if this was just a scheme of the buyer to get a better price, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

We then upgraded from the couch to this chair and ottoman which we also bought on craiglist.

We got this pair for 140 instead of 400… we really wanted the leather pads. Well, we wanted it with white leather, but they only have an off white that always looks dirty so this is the compromise. Other than this we finally got organizational tools for our desks. We love our desks since they are just a top piece with two drop downs on either side, but that means no storage. So, once again Craigslist pulled through and we got these for 50 for the pair which was a steal since they are steel no pun intended.

Also, if you have never been on the website http://austin.kashless.org/free it is worth your time. It is full of people just giving stuff away. We saw a posting today for a while leather modern couch that someone had put on their curb. We went to go get it, but someone else had beat us there which can happen, but I still can’t wrap my head around just throwing something like that out when you could sell it, but people give away a lot of stuff so they don’t have to mess with it, so give it a try if your interested, oh, and they have them in other states too.
